Christchurch School of Music

Christchurch School of Music (CSM) received $5,837.60 to purchase a digital piano and several sets of violin and cello strings. The school has over 800 students who participate in weekly lessons and a wide range of ensembles including orchestras, wind and percussion ensembles, chamber groups, choirs, and jazz and rock bands.

The school organises several concerts and recitals which require a piano, and often venues do not have one that is high enough quality. Violin and cello strings wear out quickly and need replacing regularly. The strings will help the school to maintain its string instruments available for hire and ensure the users get the best possible experience.

While maintenance of hire instruments is expensive, the grant from the Mazda Foundation will enable CSM to continue providing low rates to their students, to ensure they are accessible to all socioeconomic groups, ages and stages of learning.
