March 2015 Recipients
Totara Park Playcentre in Upper Hutt is a parent-led community based family organisation. They were gifted $550 to purchase a science display unit as their current one was over 30 years old and deteriorating fast.
Children at the playcentre are encouraged to explore and learn new skills through a wide range of activities which also provide opportunities for adventure and imaginative play. The new display unit will keep the children interested in science orientated activities as part of their overall playcentre experience.
Being able to bring more examples of nature to a protected area will keep the children engaged and interested in learning, alongside the adults. The grant from the Mazda Foundation helps ensure the equipment is safe and effective for the playcentre’s tamariki (children) to learn and grow.
