The Scout Association of New Zealand

Orakei Sea Scouts received $1,000 to put towards purchasing a cutter sailing vessel, to help young people develop their sea skills and realise their full potential.

The training boats, otherwise known as cutters, provide the scouts with the opportunity to work together to form a crew and successfully sail a boat. Along with developing sea skills the children will build self-confidence, trust and friendship.

The Scouts are based on the edge of Orakei Basin and have been operating for nearly 75 years, teaching generations of boys and girls a love of the sea and sailing.
